Operations Manager – Rustenburg Area
We have an exciting opportunity for an individual with a solid operations track record. The incumbent needs to be able to manage themselves, take responsibility for all aspects of the company’s Polokwane Market as well as having solid SHERQ experience. A relevant tertiary qualification is not a prerequisite but will be advantageous. Working knowledge of consignment based fresh produce markets that incorporate the agency model will also be an advantage.
The incumbent will be required to be on site before the market trade commences at 05h00am to conduct daily inspections on facilities, fridges,
entrance, and cashier areas. The market is open for trade six days a week (Mondays to Saturdays)
The following skills are required for the position:
• Interpersonal skills: The individual must have very good interpersonal skills to manage and motivate the operations team as well as the agency team on the markets.
• Customer relations: The individual will be responsible for handling market customer complaints and take the necessary corrective action and build positive customer relations.
• Problem solving skills: The individual must have the ability to find creative solutions to problems experienced on the market and have a can-do attitude.
• Computer skills: The individual must be computer literate and have experience in Point-ofsale software or ERP software. Solid skills in Microsoft Office suite will be required.
Responsibilities of the position include:
• Cashier management and banking to include safety and security, scheduling, balancing shorts, and overs, daily and monthly reporting, reconciliations, and deposits.
• Safety, Health and Environment: Responsible for the management of the integrated safety health and environment management plan of the site, which includes all legal compliance, OSHAS 18001, etc.
• Food Safety Audit accreditation to include registration with Food Safety Auditors, checklist preparation, and adherence to and implementation of food safety policies and procedures
• Market trading software support: The individual will be responsible for first line support of the market trading system for all users on site.
• Facility Maintenance: The incumbent will be responsible for managing the maintenance of the market facility, which includes cold – and ripening rooms as well as their chiller plants. It is important for the incumbent have the necessary experience and skills to manage contractors and service providers that perform the functions required for the facility management.
• Cold storage management to ensure the correct fees are charged for usage of cold storage.
• Public relations and marketing: The individual will be responsible to co-ordinate all public relations and marketing functions and events related to the site with the Marketing and Communications department as well as assist in any marketing and communications work required for the site.
• Human Resource Management of the operations personnel at the market, including leave management as well as any industrial relations matters.
• Porter management to include attendance, uniforms, trollies, etc
